Bocce Guidelines

These guidelines are an attempt to limit any confusion regarding the bocce tournament. This year we have skill levels that range from never playing before to our defending champions. Teams will consist of two players.

  1. If there is a conflict with a team not being able to play on the scheduled date, the team with the conflict should contact the opposing team to work out a mutually convenient time to make up the game. If the game cannot be made up prior to the next round of play, the team with the conflict will forfeit the game. Inform Mike Carbone of the results.

  2. There will be no substituting of players on a team if one team member cannot make a scheduled game.

  3. A flip of a coin will determine who rolls the pallina (white ball). The pallina must reach half court or the opposing team will toss the pallina into play.

  4. Whoever rolls the pallina will then throw the first ball. Afterwards, players will alternate throwing their bocce balls.

  5. The team that was awarded points in the previous frame begins the next frame by tossing the pallina into play.

  6. Any ball that hits the back boundary of the court is considered a dead ball and is removed from play until the end of the frame.

  7. If the pallina is knocked into the back boundary of the court during play, the frame ends with no points awarded and a new frame is started.

  8. The "nearest ball" rule governs the awarding of points (one point for each ball that is closes to the pallina). If a bocce ball is touching the pallina at the end of the frame, two points are awarded.

  9. The first team to reach 12 points wins. Must win by two points.

  10. The top eight teams (based on winning percentage) will enter the quarter-final round.

  11. Once in the quarter-final round, it will be single elimination until a champion is crowned. After the semi-final round, there will be a game for third/fourth place and first/second place.

  12. Good luck to all participants!
